This site has been reorganized. If this is your first visit and you want to find out why a seemingly normal man would volunteer to ride his bicycle from Seattle to DC, then click on either Big Ride Information or About Dan Scott.

*** NEW *** The main diary is found on the "Days" pages. The groupings are based on our 8 rest days.

Hit Counter hits                         PLEASE, send me feedback via my e-mail address:

Thanks for all your support and interest. I could not have done it without you. My donors contributed over $8,700. My wife held down her full time job, managed our household, took care of our daughter who became ill right before the ride and had to move home, and nursed two sick dogs. Lois may forgive me some day!

For those persons who have already signed up to do next year's Big Ride or are considering it, I will offer some helpful hints and things to negotiate with ALAW. These are intended to help improve the ride and should not be taken in any way to dissuade you from doing this.

I have added my first cut at an overall retrospective of what this Ride has meant to me on the Random Memories and Thoughts page. I try not to be too pretentious -- This wasn't a quest for world peace or Guinness world record event -- nor too trivializing. It was meaningful to me, and I hope to others and reflection is appropriate.

I am also organizing an archive where all the riders and staff can story their pictures and stories, This site is intended for our internal use, but friends and family can be included by invitation. Send me an email.

Finally, I will be going back through all these entries. Some are still incomplete. Many may need cleanup and editing. Once I am finished I will notify anyone who might be interested. Send me an email.

3 emails posted since August 11. THIS STREAM EXPRESSES MY OPINIONS ABOUT HOW THE RIDE CAN BE IMPROVED BY ALAW AND SHOULD BE READ BY ANY 2008 BIG RIDE ENROLLEES.

Since my camera was destroyed on Day 40 all of the photos since are donated by other Riders and staff. Thanks to Kathy, Bob, Floyd (So far), Greg Sterling's daughter Page, and Mike and Susan McFarlin (Hope I haven't missed anyone.). More photos can be found on Other Rider's Blogs. I particularly like Lisa Gizzarelli's since they closely reflect my visual memories. Sorry, best I can do.
